2019 Spring Wuyi Tie Lo Han ( Iron Monk )

 

Tie Luo Han (鐵羅漢) oolong is one of the four famous bushes from Wuyi shan which are called Si Da Ming Cong. Literally the name Tieluohan means "Iron Arhat". According to the legend the tea was created by an arhat with golden-bronze skin what leads to the name "Iron Arhat". These are the four famous tea varieties from Wuyi. The other varieties are Shui Jin Gui (Golden Turtle), Bai Ji Guan (White Crest or White Cockscomb) and Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe).

 

When brewing this tea we use a Purple Clay teapot in order to really energize the aroma and bring out its full taste. With 7g of leaves and boiling water, we rinse the tea once and then start our real steepings, with a mineral rich, charcoal and roasted nuts aroma in the first 2 steep. However, in the 3 rd steeps onward, a will mix of orchid floral and roasted honey with nuts taste. The taste reaches its peak in the 4 steeps becoming more mellow with a long-lasting aftertaste. As well as retaining its heavy fragrance, this tie lo han tea is resilient through many steeps; in our experience, it retains its well mix of mineral and floral up to 7 steeps.

When comparing to Dahongpao, it is richer in terms of mineral and flroal taste while Dahongpao is stronger in cha qi.
