Handpainted Ming Dynasty Chicken Family Re-work Teacup

 

This Chicken Family Re-work Teacup is produced by a small studio in Jingdezhen. This rework is to imitate the royal wine glass of the Ming Dynasty Emperor Chenghua. One one side of the cup, it features a  bush of Peony while the other side showing a roosters standing proudly with his family,  a female chicken & the little chicks are feeding.

 

The original Ming Dynasty Chicken Family Teacup was the royal wine glass of the Ming Dynasty Emperor Chenghua. There are only 10 authentic cups still present nowadays, while 4 belongs to private collectors. The cup was sold at the price of USD $40 million in an auction in 2016.

 

After the outline of the pattern is lightly drawn with the fine lines of blue and white, the cup is burned at a high temperature of about 1300 degrees in the kiln. Then , artist used only 3 colors : red, green and yellow to fill the reserved blue pattern and the cup is sub-calcined in the secondary kiln.
 

Each pieces is fully handmade, there will be slight variation in terms of glaze pattern, painting detail, shape & size.
